Arachnid with attitude

A cousin of the black widow spider probably came to Britain via fruit shipments from the Canary Islands a century ago. First seen in southern  England, it's now thought to be well established along the south coast and in Dorset. There have been reports of people in Britain being bitten,  but the bite isn't too dangerous from this particular member of the family, roughly equal to a bee or wasp sting.
