Tarantula Smuggling Sting (6th June 1998)

A Chicago pet store owner is being charged with smuggling tarantulas from Mexico to sell to hobbyists. The arrest of Bryan Capiz was part of a federal investigation of trafficking in endangered exotic animals... for pets, or to be used by labs in experiments. O'Hare Airport inspectors found 27 adult tarantulas of various protected species in Capiz's luggage.
